Pop on Ice

Location: Possum Trot, California
Catalog Number: 516

Possum Trot is located across the road from Calico Ghost Town in California near the Nevada border. Calico was purchased by Knottsberry Farms and preserved and commercialized. Ma was the sole resident of Possum Trot. Her deceased husband had built fanciful wood sculptures depicting fairy tale figures and old west memorabilia and established a popular roadside attraction. Knottsberry Farms wanted very badly to purchase Possum Trot, but Ma was not about to sell at any price. Ma told me that whenever the "city slicker lawyer" got within 50 yards of her place, she would pull out her shotgun to encourage him to keep his distance. My fantasy was that "Pop on Ice" could have been referring to Maude's deceased husband as well as Ma's soda. I hope she's still there.
