The Palouse River of southeastern Washington flows into the mighty Snake River, but not before it takes a dramatic 198 foot leap into a basalt gorge carved out by the Great Missoula floods at the end of the last ice age. One drives along a flat plane without any hint at what lies in the canyon below until arriving at the rim. Quite dramatic.
